Who wants some good sleep? everybody knows. Well, hopefully you know that sleep is vital for your health. Sleep is vital if you want to lose weight; if you want to have mental acuity, sleep is crucial.
So, what do you do to ensure that you get great quality sleep on a consistent basis, on a daily basis? not once a week but on a daily basis. What do you do to ensure that your sleep quality is phenomenal? Okay, so there are a couple of things we do in our clinic to treat insomnia; use your classroom right here; and a couple of things we recommend to our patients. The first is that, aside from the mundane tasks of keeping the room dark and cold, most people are aware that such information can be found on the internet.
So, what are some things that people don’t know? Well, one of the things that people don’t know about is taking calcium or magnesium, which are minerals. Okay, minerals are heavy, so what they do is actually have a sedative effect. So, if you take a little calcium and a little magnesium right before you go to sleep, it can actually calm you.
Okay, so if you have problems falling asleep, you can try some magnesium, calcium, or a combination of them, but be careful, okay? If you have any type of kidney problem or blood pressure problem and you’re taking calcium channel blockers. You’ve got to make sure you get a check-up with your physician about that, okay?
But these are for general populations; if you’re not taking those medications or have those kidney issues, calcium and magnesium are great sources to help calm you at night so you can fall asleep. And if you can’t stay asleep, that’s usually a problem with your adrenal glands. Now, that’s a bigger problem, okay, but that’s usually the cause of why people who are trying to lose weight can’t lose it; it’s because of their adrenal glands, okay?
As a result, taking melatonin does not solve the problem; we are not, and we do not recommend that people take melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone replacement therapy, so what that means is that it doesn’t fix the problem; it replaces a function in your body. What we do in our clinic to achieve integrative health is help people restore their organ function, so if you don’t have a good quality of sleep, you’re going to wake up.
You’ve heard of foggy brained? You’re going to wake up tired, and you’re going to be tired throughout the day. You’re not going to lose weight, and you already know that your gut functions will be disrupted, so the problem with the cause of your insomnia isn’t a lack of melatonin. The cause of your insomnia is that there’s some organ nest that’s not functioning, and you’ve got to fix it, so until you fix that, you’re not going to have good quality sleep.
